1-When a lie is not a lie.

 

He is often in trouble, that's what he is. Or was since his younger days at that age when boys go to school, where boys took part in school activities, where  boys passed their examinations with flying colors. James was not like the rest of them.

 

He did not have that kind of charisma that people at once took him as a success to be type of man.But James was very cunning.And he loved to cheat at games, at gambling, at almost all kind of cheating even to his own girlfriend, Susan.

Susan knew it all along that James was not that smart, not that clever and not that good at cheating. And so Susan wanted to prove it to her friend, Lucy whom was his ex-girlfriend. They both conspire to trick James and find out whether James is stupid or clever enough to escape their conspiracy.

 

But meantime all the while James was having the great time in telling his friends tales of adventure (such as how he survived with only a dollar for the whole month in Chicago.)

Or such story that he nearly married a rich man's daughter after saving her father from being swindled in a card game.

'You got to play smart when dealing with rich man epecially when you know their daughters are dump-bell," he ofen told his fans of friends who would flock around him. And at the last moment he would ask them to pay for drinks, burgers he ate and some cash. They obediently did as told. 

 

They hold no grudge against him, except that at times they thought James was just making up the story--or so he could get all he wished for. Nevertheless  some of his friends conspire to know the truth and they soon find out about him.

 

It was Susan's idea that work out well at first that James  tall tales are all lies. But later she found out the tuth from James sister, a year younger than James. 'He was telling the truth!'  she announced to Susan and Lucy.

Now both Susan and Lucy are puzzled.They did not expect him to do great things like that or kindness to anyone except for a price. Susan and Janet his third ex-girlfriend decided to confront James and jokingly told him that all the story and all the tales by him were lies. Meantime some of James friends joined in and asked to be told the truth about his tall-tales.

 

'Even if  I told you that I have an uncle who invest a Million dollar business deal and that he would part some of his income to me , would you all believe it?'  he asked.

 

No one answered.They did not know whether James was telling a lie.Or whether it was true as that of the day to that of night. Till this very day most of his friends and his girlfriends are still puzzled whether James were lying. Or whether -- when a lie is not a lie.

2-The  yes-Secretary.

 

Kenneth could have been no more than 55 when he was posted as the general manager. The Bench Incoporated owned by his late good friend, Mr. Bench have entrusted him with the stocks and bonds. In fact the entire company was his.

 The  10 staffs loved this old guy. The first day he took office was the most celebrated moment. Everybody’s monthly salary was increased. Jimmy, Kinderly and Susan got 20% more wage profit. The rest were waiting for their turn of fortune, so to speak.

 

Before all the increments of salary for staffs, Kenneth have got himself a new secretary, Wendy  to whom most of the office workers knew her before. She was the waiteress at the MacDonalds next door at the New York Mall street. Tourists, office workers and  New Yorkers  often flocked  the 24 hour café.

 

Wendy was well known by almost everyone at MacDonald’s. People from overseas came by to meet her.

 

After 10 years working  and meeting  foreigners she could speak – Japanese, Mexican, Dutch, Mandarin. It was very easy and a good experrience she had told Kenneth, one day when he dropped for a doughnut and coffee.  ‘Six languages!’ said Kenneth.

By the next week Kenneth had employed her as his new secretary.

 

The  rest in the office were puzzeld about this. They already have 3 secretaries at hand, and why should Kenneth employed her!

And they developed into a paronoia that Kenneth has gone crazy or that he is now a womanizer. Susan said  it  could be true.  

Emily, was the quitest among the rumor mongers who think  she would  lost her job.She was silent all those days, no one knows why.

‘I know as to why he’s  hiring  her’ said Emily.

 

The days of that first month were very busy. Unknowwn tourists from somewhere around the globe were in the office, often. The door was often shut. They found out that Kenneth is on leave for 15 days depending on circumstances.

 

The two older secretary were left shut off to another much smaller room. Susan said –‘ Maybe she’s a spy or  trying to swindle out on something’.

 ‘There is a conspiracy!’ said Jimmy. Jeremy and Kimberly agreed. Susan  did not wished to be in that. She wished to be by herself.

 

Everybody said Susan is a changed woman. Later they became suspicious and wondered if Susan is a part of the conspiracy. Jeremy did not agree. ‘It’s  impossible. We have kown her for years!’ he said.

‘Its very frightening,  knowing that we do not know much about anything’ announced Kimberly.

 

By the end of the month when Kenneth returned to office everyone were anxious to know the truth. But it seems that  no one dared to ask. Firstly because it sounded  ridiculous to ask Kenneth unanswerable things. The motto – the Manager is always correct was in their mind.

 It could be true that Wendy is developing into a one woman show in the company. It could be true too that Kenneth was having an affair with her. But he was on leave for 10 days to somewhere at San Francisco with his wife and three children.

 

The entire office was in full dillema. No one knows the answer as to why everything happened as it is. By the end of the month Kenneth announced that  ‘there will be 10% salary increased, everyone would get an extra 200 dollars bonus in salary.’

 

But still  the rest of them could not solved nor find  out as to why all  these are happening.  Susan was still minding her own business.  Jimmy, Jeremy and Kimberly took turned off  for their seperate holidays. They  were still wondering if  there was a conspiracy. Perhaps there was financial problem;  Kenneth was keeping secrets all by himself. They never did know.

They returned to work as usual for the next two months.

Then Wendy announced she is leaving. Everyone was shocked and were puzzled. Why should she do that!

By now the company have earned  a Million dollar profits.

No one  outside the main office knows how it was done or with whom and by whom.

3-Hamburg.

A scheme was set up by players of the Basketball team -- that their Coach was not good enough.The Wimber Baskettball team is on the verge of relegation and Donald the Chairman was worried. He had invested half of his life savings and with plenty more games to play to complete the league.The Wimber Basketball team would be relegated if they loose to the bottom three. Donald was banging on Reggy the couch to be true to professionalism. Otherwise every thing would be lost. And  what a shame it would be.

‘Disaster strikes again. Wimber would be relegated’   --  wrote the local newspaper. The team had lost six games in a row.

 

The  fans said there were bribery going on.

4-The Boy Genius.

 

‘Three cheers for Frederick,’ shouted the boys at the home of young Frederick, aged 10. Twenty of them came to celeberate Frederick inauguration as the best of the student, a genius and a Matemetician. The party was held to celebrate their boy champion. In fact they have never have such a one in town because  none  have won anything to celebrate about.

‘He’s a boy genius,’ announced the Mayor Bennet,’and the pride of our town.’

‘Something for all of us to remember for a long time,’ said Ronald, the Librarian.’He is often seen  in the Library.’

5-Did you know.

 

There are people who wished for things that they should have been entrusted for them. While others wished the other way round.

 It has become a fab in San Francisco that people would stay late at night just to look up at the sky. They know that the UFO is up  there somewhere just as Mr. and Mrs. Woods have said and have told them.

‘Strange things coming from the sky,’ said Mrs. Woods. ‘Everything was so quiet!’ added her husband.
